Stephen Bradley
When Gerard Depardieu toasted the Queen of Spain in the feature film “1492 – Conquest of Paradise” he used 15th century glassware recreated by craftsman Stephen Bradley.
And when the stars of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy needed a Pangalactic Gargle Blaster, they too turned to Steve, formerly the glassmaker for the Royal College of Art in London.
Devon-based Steve is the brother of Peter Bradley and is a professional restorer with more than 15 years experience. Regular commissions include chandelier restoration; glass liners for silverware and claret jug bodies.
His work has also included pieces for television, advertising campaigns and exhibitions. He is one of Britain’s most talented glassmakers and has revived rare techniques including creating cameo glass and 18th century twisted stem wineglasses. His copy of the Portland Vase is a perfect replica. The original, which inspired Josiah Wedgwood, is in the British Museum.
Steve is currently working on a range of glassware, including jewellery, for the Gallery. Trophies he has created include a range for Barnardos “Childrens Champions” and 12 for the “British Women in Film” awards.
