'Between Land and Sea' - Ric Horner 7th November - 27th January |

We will be showing a collection of Ric Horner's breathtaking paintings depicting the wonder of light over landscapes.
"The coast has always fascinated me. As I grew up by the sea, it has been the backdrop to many of my early experiences. Since returning after some years away, the sea has been my inspiration. The paintings in this exhibition are a fusion of the visual and emotional experience of being by the sea. My interpretation of the unique light, space and colour are influenced by my experience of feeling connected to it. I wanted to avoid compositional features as much as possible, so I chose a stretch of coast that seems quite barren. This allows the elemental qualities of light, space and colour, the background, to move to the fore. The seascapes in this show are based on the coast at Seasalter. This lies beyond the estuary from the river Medway, between the North Kent coast and the Isle of Sheppey. These features combine to create shallower waters and calmer seas, which create mirror flat tides with an open view to the horizon. The distance between low and high tide is vast at Seasalter. At low tide miles of hidden landscape appear. You are briefly permitted to occupy this space, which adds to the mysterious qualities of this area; the sea reveals and then consumes. This seemingly barren stretch of coast is dynamic, driven by the weather and seasons; it has an infinite variety of moods. The sublime is commonplace."
